Tant Kappie Cottage

We refurbished this cottage when we first started offering accommodation fifteen years ago. It was the home of Tant (Aunt) Kappie, who, with her husband and family, settled in this valley in the early nineteen hundreds, one of the first farming families to do so. In those days the valley’s inhabitants would travel by horse and cart to attend church services. Tant Kappie got her nickname because she would insist on walking the 15 kilometres to Rawsonville – and back – with her fair skin protected by a bonnet or “kappie”.
